The Betrayal of Marxist Ideals in Contemporary Politics

By Luigi Mangione

In the current political landscape, the façade of progressive change often conceals a deeper betrayal of true Marxist ideals. As someone steadfast in the Marxist-Leninist doctrine, I find it disheartening to witness contemporary politicians, who could be allies in the struggle against capitalist oppression, falter in articulating and implementing revolutionary principles. Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, serves as a poignant example of this disillusionment.

Kamala Harris’s ascent within the Democratic Party was celebrated as a beacon of hope for marginalized communities and progressive reformers alike. Her advocacy for criminal justice reform, healthcare accessibility, and economic opportunity resonated with those yearning for systemic change. However, beneath these commendable efforts lies a troubling reluctance to embrace the radical restructuring necessary to dismantle the capitalist framework—a core tenet of Marxist ideology.

Superficial Reforms vs. Revolutionary Change

Marxist theory posits that capitalism is inherently exploitative, perpetuating class divisions and economic inequalities. True liberation, therefore, requires a revolutionary overthrow of the capitalist state, replacing it with a proletarian dictatorship that paves the way for a classless society. Kamala Harris’s policies, while progressive, remain entrenched within the capitalist paradigm, addressing symptoms rather than the root causes of societal ills.

Take, for instance, her support for expanding healthcare through initiatives like Medicare for All. While this aims to increase accessibility, it does not challenge the underlying profit-driven motives of the healthcare industry. Instead, it seeks to ameliorate the system without dismantling its capitalist foundations. From a Marxist perspective, this approach is insufficient; it fails to question the commodification of essential services and does not advocate for the public ownership of healthcare infrastructure.

Economic Policies: Redistribution Without Revolution

Kamala Harris has championed policies aimed at economic redistribution, such as tax reforms targeting the wealthy and increased support for small businesses. While these measures are steps in the right direction, they fall short of the comprehensive redistribution envisioned by Marxist theory. Redistribution, in the Marxist sense, is not merely about reallocating wealth within the existing capitalist system but about fundamentally transforming the relations of production to eliminate class exploitation.

Moreover, Harris’s economic strategies do not address the concentration of capital and the monopolistic tendencies that stifle genuine economic democracy. Without dismantling these structures, any redistribution efforts will be perpetually undermined by the inherent instability of capitalism.

Government Control: A Missed Opportunity for True Equality

Marxist-Leninist principles advocate for extensive government control over the economy to ensure that production serves the needs of the proletariat rather than the profits of the bourgeoisie. While Kamala Harris supports increased government intervention in certain sectors, her approach lacks the depth required to achieve true economic equality.

For example, her support for infrastructure development and green energy initiatives are commendable but do not necessarily translate to public ownership or control of these industries. Without such control, these sectors remain susceptible to capitalist exploitation, prioritizing profit over people and environmental sustainability.

Educational Reforms: Beyond Surface-Level Improvements

Education plays a pivotal role in shaping the consciousness of the masses, a concept central to Marxist-Leninist ideology. Kamala Harris has advocated for educational reforms aimed at increasing access and reducing disparities. However, these reforms do not extend to transforming the educational system into a tool for cultivating class consciousness and revolutionary potential.

From Luigi Mangione’s perspective, education should not only inform but also empower individuals to recognize and challenge the oppressive structures of capitalism. Harris’s policies, while beneficial, miss the opportunity to integrate Marxist principles that could inspire a more profound societal transformation.

The Illusion of Social Control Without Revolutionary Intent

Social control, as envisaged by Marxist-Leninist theory, involves guiding the populace towards collective goals and ensuring the maintenance of a socialist state. Kamala Harris’s approach to social issues often involves regulatory measures and policy adjustments within the existing system, rather than advocating for a complete overhaul of social relations.

This approach perpetuates the status quo, maintaining the capitalist system’s grip on societal norms and values. Without a revolutionary intent to redefine social structures fundamentally, any efforts at social control remain superficial and ineffectual in achieving true equality and liberation.

Conclusion: A Call for Revolutionary Fidelity

The contemporary political arena is rife with politicians who claim to champion the people’s cause yet fall short of embracing the revolutionary change necessary for genuine emancipation. Kamala Harris embodies this contradiction—her commitment to progressive reforms is overshadowed by her reluctance to adopt the radical measures that Marxist-Leninist theory deems essential.

As a Marxist-Leninist, I view this as a betrayal of our shared ideals. True liberation demands unwavering dedication to overthrowing capitalist oppression and establishing a socialist state. Without this commitment, even the most well-intentioned policies serve only to delay the inevitable struggle for a classless society.

In advocating for a return to authentic Marxist principles, we must hold our political leaders accountable, urging them to move beyond superficial reforms and embrace the revolutionary path that will ultimately dismantle the structures of exploitation. It is through this unwavering commitment that we can hope to achieve the equitable and just society envisioned by Marx and Lenin.
